One (wo)Man's Trash...

It all started with a couch. My latest addiction, that is.

That's me sitting on my couch up there, for those of you who are unaware. Also, that is not a booby tassel on my shirt, just to call out the elephant in the room.

I should add that I'm currently getting over the plague, also known as a sinus infection/strep throat love child for those who are all technical and shit, and I've been on antibiotics since Monday. Antibiotics are the anti-fun of all of the prescription meds out there because, well, you're not supposed to drink on them. Granted, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to drink on the majority of prescription meds but I'm not really one for following rules. Anyways, these antibiotic critters are real party poopers and don't work if you mix booze with them, thus I've been booze free for almost a week now. It's tragic, really.

I wake up in the mornings feeling refreshed and well rested. There's zero traces of dark bags under my eyes and I'm not dying for water in the mornings, as if I've been adventuring a desert for the last three days. Things have been really different around these parts and strange behavior has started sparking up.

Back to that latest addiction I previously spoke of.
No, my PayPal account hasn't been hacked. Sober Sally over here can't stop ordering gently used DVDs off of Half.com.

Last night alone, I managed to order 11 new movies. ELEVEN. And I can't even sit here and blame it on the alcohol because I was dead sober. But I just sat there, on that sofa you see above, sipping on some quality Brita water, just roaming hundreds of different titles, buying any movie that caught my eye, because I was bored and I felt like online shopping... but I'm also trying to be a budget diva, so this seemed like a logical alternative.

Until I went and hit "complete my order" on eleven DVDs that may, or may not, arrive completely unplayable.

What damage did I do last night? Let's see.

What Women Want... Hello, Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt for a grand total of $3.74? If you can say no to that, I'm just not sure you are human.

Bride Wars. Because Kate Hudson is everything. Especially for $5.37. I broke the bank a little with this one because I opted for a "brand new" copy. Stay tuned for just how "brand new" said copy will end up being.

Bring It On. Classic, obviously. $4.74 for pure nostalgia, yeah, I'll take two.

Other movies ordered include: 10 Things I Hate About You, Almost Famous, Something Borred, How to Lose a Guys in 10 Days, He's Just Not That Into You, Step Brothers, It's Complicated, The Girl Next Door, Eat Pray Love, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Matilda, and Dirty Dancing.

And I still have one more night of sobriety... the day is young, my friends. The day is young indeed.

My real excitement about all of this is going to be when they all start arriving next week because my mailbox is going to be abnormally full for a few days. Also, I'm pretty sure my mailman is going to think I've got some shady business going on and it's going to be awesome.

So, if you need me this evening, you're going to need to have a pretty decent DVD bargain on hand to get my attention. You've been warned.

Also, I miss wine.

  1. We are struggling with the same illness here. I guess the FL pollen count is nuts right now. At least on the gulf coast. Its freakin miserable.

Also, youre nuts for ordering preowned dvds...hopefully they all work! Lol

  2. Not even gonna lie. That sounds like some awesome shit and I may go partake myself.

  3. Dirty Dancing and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days are MUST HAVES in any dvd collection. I'm a bit disappointed you are just now purchasing them, so I'm just going to assume you're ordering these as backups, for when the original dvds wear out. Right?

  4. Awesome picks. We move around so much that I don't have a collection yet ... but you can bet your bottom dollar that Bring It On would be in mine ;) Also, I'm loving your hair in that pic! Do you use a curling wand?

  5. Great purchase list, though, I'm wondering.....How could you not already own Dirty Dancing?

  6. I'm just going to say this.. I'm really disappointed in your for not acquiring Dirty Dancing in your collection sooner. That baby is a classic.

  7. Are you sure that you haven't actually developed a shopping addiction?

  8. Get well soon....

  9. Nothing makes me happier than a good deal on the movies. Why do I need to pay $20 for something that I probably won't even watch that often? $5 sounds much better to me! I will have to check out this site.

  10. I think if you're going to buy 11 dvds in on sitting those are all pretty great movies choices that you made!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Bahahaha. Those prices seen a little exorbitant for used DVDs. At least they're all good movies!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Haha you really need your own episode of like "my strange addiction" but in your defense they all are good movies.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If there is a movie more quotable than Step Brothers...then I haven't seen it! And be honest, Good Housekeeping turns you on too....

    ReplyDelete
  14. I almost always buy DVDs used - when the Blockbuster stores closed a lot of the used bookstores in the area bought up the stock and it's been so great!

    ReplyDelete
  15. ...... but Matilda. I love you, Miss Honey.

  16. Love those movies, and have quite a few of them. Which I probably paid more than that for... hmm I think I got the short end of the stick here.

  17. I would say leave your mailman a thank you treat.. but he might think you're trying to buy him off and keep him quiet.

  18. you can never go wrong for purchasing almost famous for under 4 dollars.

  19. I LOVE Something Borrowed. And it must be something going around because I have the same sore throat/sinus crap. It's hangin' on, too! Ugh!

  20. This sounds like a positive investment in your future movie collection, and you should thank yourself.

  21. and now I have an incredible urge to see what this half.com is all about. great choices though!

  22. I think you got yourself some deals! Those are awesome movies!

  23. great movie selection! I hope that all the movies work when you get them and I hope you feel better soon!

  24. This post is great and all but let's focus on the real thing here:

    YOU'RE LIKE REALLY FRIGGIN PRETTY.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have never heard of this Half.com and now I'm afraid you've unleaded the kraken. My bank account will never be the same!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'll say it again, you need a referral link to this site (If you can figure out how to get one, let me know and I'll hold off on my big purchase hehe) ;) I am about to buy a ton of books and dvds. I cannot believe I've allowed myself to buy brand new when it honestly only matters if no pages are torn and the disc doesn't skip.

side note: I just found Catching Fire for 16.00...& granted it's on sale for that at Target but the regular price is 23.00 online.

And I'm glad you're about over your infection!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Pretty sure I have said sinus infection right now but am putting off antibiotics because I have a wedding to attend this weekend. And let's be honest, NO ONE goes to a wedding and stays sober. Am I right?

    ReplyDelete
  28. So is it sad that I already own most of the movies you mentioned on your list there?? And half.com might end up being the death of me... so many books to purchase (you go for the DVDs, I go for the books).... thankfully I have been working so much that I haven't had much online time and the online time that I do has been dedicated to my blog/catching up on blogs so I can't do too much damage to my bank account!

Hope you're feeling better soon. A week without wine is probably one of the worst ways that I can think to spend a week!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pretty sure your collection is missing "She's All That". Other than that it's perfect!

Hope you're feeling better, I think our relationships with wine are reciprocated and it misses you too ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I didn't even notice the booby tassel until you said that HAHAHA nothing wrong with booby tassels!
Hope you are feeling better - good call on Almost Famous! great movie.

  31. online shopping is the most dangerous activity ever. but I stand behind these purchases still. good work.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have to say no woman's collection of movies is complete with out: Bring it On, Almost Famous (I NEED THAT), 10 Things I Hate About You, or anything with Matthew Mc-YUMMAHAYYYY! I would like to say if you like 80's movies you may want to seek out Say Anything if it's not in your current collection. If you like Almost Famous, you'll like it, and Singles (all by the same director).

    ReplyDelete
  33. I was actually laughing at this before I finished it because, in my mind, you can't just stop there with those 11, there are more out there that you need. BUT YOU HAVE A WHOLE EXTRA DAY! Get to shopping, woman.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ha! I love that you went on a DVD buying spree. Although a lot of those movies are in my stash too! I recommend adding Step Up (the original hello young Channing) & Baby Mama.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I say yes yes yes to this whole list! ...But to Bring it On and Matilda....I say #duh.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't worry half.com is awesome. I have ordered from there many times and all the DVDs worked. Which is kind of sad because I now have no place to store the 9 million I have now so they are taking up precious closet space.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I got a Blu-ray copy of 10 Things at Target for FIVE DOLLARS recently. They always have great DVD sales.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would (and may have done) the same thing but all I could think when reading this was poor bear! I hope you plan to have a girly slumber party to watch some of these! (which I think is totally called for now and can I please be invited?)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've only ever heard of half.com being used for textbooks, but now that I know they have DVDs, I'm all over it. It's like Walmart's $5 movie bin only on steroids. Glad you are feeling better - you definitely don't look like you were sick for a week!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think the question is, why would you NOT order those movies? Those are classics and need to be in your collection. I think you made the right decision, just sayin'!

    ReplyDelete
  41. My bank account constantly looks like that, but my poison is books. I cannot stop buying books, especially for such a great price!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have all of those movies so I have no room to judge.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I've never heard of that website and it's probably best I stay off of it. We watch Toy Story (1, 2 AND 3), The Sandlot, Despicable Me (1 and two of course), and The Grinch.. kid won't watch anything else…which means if anyone wants to battle me in a quite competition, bitch is going down.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Um... you should not have mentioned this site because I LOVE just about every single movie you just mentioned and I NEED THEM NOW!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hahaha that's ridiculous and hilarious. That list of movies sounds like it would make a GREAT movie marathon!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes! All of the Bring It On movies are amazing! I had a customer stop by one day and give me all 5 of them. He said "You look like the kind of person who would enjoy these..." I wasn't offended at all.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I just ordered a ton of DVDs on amazon.com and my reasoning was that if I spent over $35 I got free shipping. I went on the hunt for a bunch of classic films and spent over $100 on black and white films totally sober. I believe we are both awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Those are some legit movie choices! And sorry about the sickness, I had a sinus infection/some weird virus and was sick for almost ALL of February. What. the. heck. And watch out for all the coughing, I somehow managed to fracture a rib while coughing up a lung. But honestly, the worst part was cutting out wine. It's like losing happiness ;) Hope you're feeling better!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Um can I just say I own almost every single one of those dvds haha. So either you and I should be real-life best friends or I've already had a problem with buying dvds haha.

    ReplyDelete
  50. This is hilarious. It's like your alcohol withdrawal habits are even worse than drunk off your ass habits haha!

  51. That is a phenomenal list and I hope you feel better soon!

  52. I have a serious obsession with buying pre-viewed movies... Like my bf wants to hold an intervention. And then you go and tell me about buying them in this website... Me happy. Bf? Not so much. To which I say, sucks to suck.

  53. if you want preowned dvds i would totally send you mine. mine are collecting dust in their sleeves while i watch everything on netflix! we're all digital up in here these days! ;)

    xo. jenn @ hello, rigby!

  54. This is totally my weakness too! I have been collecting good movies for $4 and $5 from the bins at Target and Walmart for the past 4 years. It never seems like a lot of money at the time, but when I look at my collection of 60+ movies, I cringe a little bit....

    ReplyDelete
  55. Brilliant DVD choices - I use Kalahari over here in South Africa and I just received my parcel containing Dirty Dancing (can't believe you said that one too!), About Time (with Rachel McAdams and Bill Nighy) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I Reeeeeally want to see the movie Her with Scarlette Johansson and Jacques Phoenix.. it looks amazing! Have you seen it??

I collect DVDS.. honestly I must have an entire rental stores worth! What fun! :)

  58. I can't say I blame ya for getting all those movies - they're all pretty great! However, if I venture over to that site, there is gonna me some major problems hitting my debit card. Ha, ha!

  59. I might have missed this this week, but did you give up wine for Lent? Maybe I should do the same....I'm super little, but I bet I'd lose like 600 pounds if I stopped drinking wine. Wine is my fave!

  60. It sounds like a great website - I think I'm going to have to go and have a look myself.

  62. Gah I've been looking for a place to buy cheap books to go on my coffee table and I obviously don't want to pay a lot since, you know, I won't read them so this is perfection. Except for it's not because now I'm just going to join you in your "I'm addicted to hoarding all the things" mentality. Plus I now need to dance around with flying objects like Matilda and order that as well. Great.
