I'd date me.

Every Wednesday night there's a food truck pod that happens right around the corner from my apartment complex, complete with 6 different trucks ranging from cupcakes to Korean tacos. I'd like to say I frequent the hipster gathering a lot more than I do but really, overpriced fried food served out of something that resembles the camper Uncle Si won that one time just isn't always appealing to me.

Last night, however, I had a lady date with one of my friends to attend the fried food on wheels gathering, so I prepped my cholesterol levels all day and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately for my health's sake, my friend bailed on me last minute and I was left with a growling, pissed off stomach that was still trying to decipher why I had been light on the caloric intake all day.

I had my feet propped up on my ottoman and a cold beer in my hand when I started roaming Instagram, you know, the norm. It was about 5 minutes in, after scrolling through what seemed like 85 dinner hubby made me photos when I realized I didn't need to cancel my food truck date just because my friend cancelled. It was a gorgeous night and dammit I can take my own happy ass around the lake for that burger I had been lusting for all day long.

And that is exactly what I did.
Accompanied by my 2 favorite furry dates, of course.

It was strangely peaceful walking around the lake, burger, cupcake, and dogs a tow. I was able to actually enjoy alone time, which isn't something I'm accustomed to doing. Maybe I'm not so bad after all.

I brought my foil wrapped greasy food back to my apartment, put my favorite slippers on, and sipped on a beer while watching the same Sex and the City reruns I've seen 50 times. I couldn't help but continue asking myself why I don't do this for myself more often?
I'm totally dateable!

I don't really know where I'm going with this, I just felt a sense of strange peace come over me after my grease binge last night. I also slept through the entire night without waking up, which happens about as often as June Boo Boo takes a shower. Maybe it was the nearly 1,000 calories I took in at one sitting, but I don't think so, I think I was just relaxed.
I've got to do this more often.

  1. I've never had food from a truck. LOL. We don't have food trucks where I live.

I'm also extremely jealous that its warm enough to take a long walk with the dogs where you live... I'm not that lucky.

  2. i think we are a match made in heaven. in that I would date you. and I would date me too. is that weird? ok.

  3. keep posting lovely things like this and i'm going to call off the engagement and switch teams.

  4. I don't think I've ever eaten from a food truck. This needs to happen. I'm glad you went for it. If it wasn't -20 degrees here, I totally would have walked last night too :( Lucky duck!

  5. In the words of the wise and wonderful Muppets, you had a "Me Party". Those are the best. I mean really, have you ever met anyone more interesting than you? A little solace (and cholesterol) do the psyche good.

  6. I know what you mean! I always think, well, I can't GO ALONE, and then when I manage to talk myself into being brave, I actually enjoy the time with myself!
And I'd eat at the food trucks every week. Just for the cupcakes :))

  7. I'd date you too.
Sounds like a legit selfie date. I dig it.

  8. me time is the best. Especially when there's dogs involved, too.

  9. haha, this was amazing. Food looks delish too, btw.

  10. This makes me happyfaced :) the most exciting relationship you can have is with pretty whitty duhhh

I'd date you too, if I decided I was into that. FYI

  11. Heck yes you can date yourself. Great job girl. That burger looks incredible. Go, you!

  12. I've never eaten at a food truck, and my city has a food truck gathering every other Friday. I've been trying to get Johnny to go with me, but after this it's settled. I'm going by myself.

  13. I learned, even when I was with someone, that I prefer my dates alone. I usually sit up at the bar with a book and some how end up getting drawn into a conversation with some old guy who wants to talk books. I know, weird, especially since it is about books I've never heard of.

  14. haha sometimes those nights are the best!!

  15. The food looks amazing, and can we talk about how darn cute your dogs are? Sounds like the best date ever, I would totally take those 2 little fur balls on more dates around the lake!

  16. Selfie dates are THE best dates.
No one can convince me otherwise.
Especially if beer, burgers & cupcakes are involved.

You do you, girl...uh yeah, you know what I mean...

P.S. TWO DAYS UNTIL LUKE. TWO.

  17. I agree with Jessica ^^ self dates really are the best! It took me a long time to really get comfortable with doing things like that alone but it's so relaxing. Kinda jeal that you still have pumpkin beer, I can't find it anymore!

  18. Ah Portland is full of Food Carts everywhere! I like to think we're spoiled, but I also like to think greasy food is wonderful :-)

  19. I know EXACTLY what you mean and how you were feeling. Here's to more me dates! :)

  20. It's 8:45AM and now I want a burger. And to have my husband go do something on his own tonight so I can have a me date.

  21. That sounds like an amazing evening. I can't IG pictures of dinners my hubby made me because he never makes dinner (unless it's summer, because he WILL grill, but the rest of the meal is up to me) and I usually resort to eating week old custard out of the freezer.

    I'd date you, Whit :)

  22. Those greasy fries and foil wrapped burger look glorious. So do those pups. I'm coming to Florida and stealing them. K. Thanks. Bye!

  23. I love alone time, fried food, my dogs and slippers. I'm married and I still swear I'm the best date I've ever had. You've gotta love yourself!

I don't normally instagram photos of dinners my husband made because they're normally Ellio's pizza. When they are an actual meal, my kitchen looks like Hiroshima after the bomb went off. No thanks. I'll cook.

  24. I'd TOTES date you! Or....if you lived here...or I lived there (which honestly sounds like a great idea because its 15 degrees outside!!!), we could take the dogs and Boomer and be those annoying people out with a child. And everyone would think we were lovahs.

  25. Whenever I have a really nice evening alone (actually if we're being honest, whenever I do something awesome/cool/productive on my own) I think about what an awesome catch I'd be and how lucky I am to have caught myself. Imagine people saying, "Oh my goodness, how did you snag yourself? You sure are a keeper! Never let yourself go!" Instant confidence boost!

  26. Your date sounds like a dream. I am one of those people that requires me time to function. Sometimes I hit up Target and MCD's for a fry and coke by myself just to get away from my husband and child. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I wouldn't date you... simply because blondes really aren't my thing even though I am one. I would however, hit up the food truck party with you EVERY wednesday night. We'd run that shiiii...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Mmmm a grease binge--sometimes it's exactly what's needed!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That sounds like the perfect night to me! I wish food trucks were right around the corner. Or maybe I don't since that might not be good for my waistline....

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have no idea why but I always feel weird going to do certain things alone. I've never actually eaten at a restaurant alone too, which is strange. I guess most times I just don't like being alone, but for other things, I enjoy having no one with me. Especially when I'm in target!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am jealous of this food on wheels..never been to this before and that beer you get...I go to the brewery every year! Can I ship beer to people..if so..Ill send you some!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I do the same thing, but more frequently. I will do things alone and realize that I enjoy the time I spend with myself. Because, honestly, no on treats you better than yourself! Though, a male companion would also be super rad...Pft, whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I had the same type of love affair with a Jimmy John's sandwich last night. Who knows why I'm single?! But seriously...food truck tacos, hot dogs, whatever, always taste better late at night. Especially when there's beer involved. Why is that?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Totally never eaten from a food truck and sort of embarrassed that I understand the Uncle Si comment- lol!
Yay to burgers from a truck... lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm one of the weird ones that loves food trucks. So living in your apartment complex would be extremely dangerous for me.

Sometimes it's hard to make yourself just stop and take time for yourself, but boy does it feel good! Glad you were able to enjoy an evening to yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You sound like a most excellent date girlfriend!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I scheduled a me date into my weekend before even reading this, and now I'm so glad I did, because I will find me some greasy food and beer to add to that self time! Yay for sleeping through the night too, because that is a rarity in my house as well.

    ReplyDelete
  38. hell...I would date you!haha. But really - I found your page through your recent link party - which I participated in last night during my "alone time." I am loving your blog! Thanks for the laughs!

  40. I'm sure your pups where super excited for a walk and dinner date! Those trucks used to come to my apartment complex and you know I tried them once or twice. or a lot. OMG yum.

  41. Your dogs are seriously so FREAKING precious. This is probably an idiotic question, so forgive me, but what kinda' dogs are they!?! I'm in the market for a pup that won't make my allergies go insane!! :)

Andddddd- I love 'dating myself'... I tell Jared I need 'me days' more often!

Hell yes!! Sounds like a really nice evening. I think we all need to take ourself on a date now and then.

    Also, YOUR DATES. Their faces!!

  53. That sounds like every night I have when my husband travels from work. They are necessary. It's my real housewives and wine nights. No company necessary - unless it comes from the dogs.

  54. Part of me really miss those moments of single life, taking yourself to dinner & the overall independence. Being single is actually a great time in life. I realize that now ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. This line, "which happens about as often as June Boo Boo takes a shower", is perfection! So dang hilarious.

This idea of a self date sounds magical...I think I may need to incorporate this into my life!

  56. Sounds like a fantastic solo date! and I kind of want that cupcake haha.

  57. I love this! Over the summer, my husband bailed on me for dinner even though we had reservations. So I still went by myself! It was a little weird to be eating by myself at a nice restaurant but it made me feel good for some reason! So I totally understand!

  58. Um...Food Trucks? I LOVE Food Trucks. Especially cupcake ones.

  62. I am so into food truck hopping in the summer (too cold here now). I am also digging how bold you are. So many people (read: women especially) are afraid to do things alone. Is it more fun with a friend? Probably, but its still fun on your own too.

  63. I loved your post today. I read your blog regularly and love it, but today was inspiring. It was a great reminder that we're our own awesome date and that we don't need another person to validate how amazing we are. While boy friends and friends are wonderful they're an addition to our lives, not what make our lives. You've inspired me to plan my own "me" date tonight and it might just include a cup cake!

  64. I love this, I love this so much.

Although it is true I have a boyfriend, it's long distance, so those Friday nights all the couples are out at the basketball game or grabbing pizza? I'm hanging out at home, finding something to occupy my time (probably blogging aha!)

Your post has inspired me to try something new, maybe me own little date this Friday or something along those lines. I'm excited - which of course is a little quirky, nonetheless I look forward to my Friday night.

  66. You and your June Boo Boo comments, LMAO! I need to learn how to have my own self dates. I don't enjoy them. Maybe I should learn. That beer is fabulous though!

  67. I think everyone needs a self date night. Though technically, you did have your adorable dogs as dates.
And that food from the trucks? Looks amazing! Makes me want a burger right now. Which means I'll probably take myself for a lunch date tomorrow.

  68. Is it bad that I would prefer alone date nights? I'm such a weirdo. I need to move to where you are at, because we do not have awesome deliciously bad for you food trucks anywhere in my town.
    That burger looks absolutely delicious!

  69. Food truck food is the best!!! And destroying cupcakes is one of my specialties I listed as one of my fun facts yesterday ;) Think I might have a food binge myself this weekend, however, my husband gets the joy of watching it all go down... *Sigh* If only I can enjoy carbs in peace... with maybe Lisa Vanderpump on TV... So many women aren't comfortable being on their own, but we're fabulous, so why shouldn't we date ourselves? I'm going to give this a try in the spring when it's not -20c like it is now! ;-)
